What Is Occupational Therapy for Children?
Occupational therapy helps children develop the life skills they need to reach developmental milestones and improve their quality of life. Because children experience new challenges and learning opportunities, and are transitioning through life at such a fast pace, occupational therapy enables children to explore the world through meaningful play and interactions.
Why True Therapy
At True Therapy Group, we offer evidence-based, client-centred care that caters to the need and situation of individual families. Serving the Durham Region, GTA and surrounding areas, our occupational therapists are skilled at building mutual trust and understanding with our clients. We are passionate in partnering with caregivers, parents, children, educators, and/or other professionals to identify innovative solutions and create lasting impact.
From writing, using scissors and getting dressed our therapists work with your child to help them develop the fine motor skills they need.
If you’re noticing your child is falling behind with writing, they might need help developing their fine motor skills. We can help get them on the right path and improve their handwriting skills.
DEVELOPING HANDWRITING SKILLS
DEVELOPING HANDWRITING SKILLS
Crying, tantrums, clinging, headaches, and stomach-aches could all be signs that your child is feeling anxious. An OT can help by identifying triggers and providing coping strategies to increase overall independence and success in your child’s daily activities.
Children with SPD have difficulties receiving and responding to information through the senses (e.g. sound, touch, movement). This directly impacts a child’s ability to engage in daily activities in their environments. An OT can provide strategies which will help your child participate in daily activities.
Picky eating is when a child prefers the same food over trying new foods. Food can be refused due to a number of reasons (texture, temperature, consistency, smell, etc.). An OT can help your child learn to enjoy a variety of healthy foods to support their growing bodies and participate in activities.
Learning to perform basic self-care tasks such as dressing, teeth cleaning, toileting and using cutlery are important milestones in your child's life. We can help your child develop these skills, enabling them to work towards their independence and improved self-esteem.
